Becoming a Trauma Responsive Church - 2023 Survey of First UMC Congregation

Trauma (‘wound’ in Greek) is deeply distressing or disturbing experiences that overwhelm us.  In the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us found ourselves more isolated, coping with changes to our day-to-day lives and less certain futures. Financial struggles, racial inequality, family problems, LBGTQ+, health, and employment concerns can be traumatic, as well as overwhelming experiences such as abuse, neglect, household dysfunction, substance abuse, some mental illnesses, incarceration, and more.  As a church, we seek to reduce trauma and embrace healing, but we desire to do so in an informed and unified manner.

To this end, your response to this survey will be very helpful to the church’s plan to address the principles of being a Trauma Responsive Church.  Whether you have expertise on the subject or are not completely sure about the topic, your answers are important, and we hope everyone participates.

It should take 10-15 minutes of your time to complete the survey.  While it is helpful if you answer all inquiries, feel free to pass on any part that you prefer not to address. At the conclusion of this questionnaire, there will be space for you to add any comments that you would like to share.

Thank you for your assistance!
